Hugh Jackman to Become "Amateur" Spy

by | November 9, 2006 | Comments

Forget James Bond and Matthew Bourne. Hugh Jackman wants his very own spy franchise, and he’ll be using Robert Littell’s "The Amateur" as stepping stone number one.

From Variety: "Hugh Jackman’s Seed Prods. has made a Fox 2000 deal to turn the Robert Littell spy novel "The Amateur" into an action vehicle for Jackman.

"24" executive producer Evan Katz will write the script and Jackman will produce with partner John Palermo.

Jackman will play a CIA cryptographer whose fiancee is killed in a suspicious plane crash. When he discovers that the plane was brought down by terrorists, he finds the leverage that forces his bosses to train him to exact revenge."

And yes, this book was already made into a movie once before. But that was back in 1981, the flick (which starred John Savage and Christopher Plummer) wasn’t all that great, and this new version has been summarily deemed "NOT a remake."
