Legion Fans React to That Lenny Twist

Some have theories, some have more questions, some have theories about their questions.

This week’s Legion answered a big question about Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), but of course the answer only raised more questions. This is Legion after all.

Plaza herself told Rotten Tomatoes that the character of Lenny was originally written as a 50-year-old man. In “Chapter 4,” Syd (Rachel Keller), Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris) and Kerry (Amber Midthunder) learn that David (Dan Stevens) didn’t have a female friend named Lenny. He had a friend named Benny, who looks about the way Plaza originally described Lenny. Needless to say, fans were blindsided.

It was hard enough getting over the fact that a major star like Plaza was killed in the first episode of her new series. But she kept coming back in David’s head, so life and death are a little flexible in Legion. But to learn she’s not a she? Some fans were able to express their confusion in GIF form!

Even before the episode ended, fans started coming up with theories about why David remembered Benny as Lenny. This isn’t the first time David has seen someone — or something — else in place of one of his friends. He often sees a figure dubbed the Devil With Yellow Eyes, and some think Lenny/Benny might be the same as that other vision plaguing David’s mind.

Of course, others just have questions.

Sometimes the simplest reaction gets right to the point.

Sometimes politics seep into comic-book TV show discussions.

Sometimes your comic-book TV show drops an Easter Egg! If Anthony Falcon here is right, then Dr. Poole is an enemy of S.H.I.E.L.D. (we can neither confirm nor deny the validity of this speculation — sometimes an octopus is just an octopus).

Legion had more than just Lenny’s big secret to unload this week. After a prolonged battle with The Eye’s troops, Kerry took a bullet for David. The fans are all praying it’s only a flesh wound.

Judging by the teaser for next week’s episode, it looks like Kerry is going to be OK.

By the way, did you notice the exact minute the episode ended? FX frequently exceeds the one-hour time block, but Legion has people analyzing everything!

Legion airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. on FX.
