Melissa McCarthy Kills It as Sean Spicer in the Top Saturday Night Live Sketch This Week

In one of 5 best moments from the episode hosted by Kristen Stewart, McCarthy impersonated the new White House Press Secretary

Twilight series star Kristen Stewart was upstaged by a single sketch on Saturday Night Live’s February 4 episode: guest star Melissa McCarthy turned in an epic spoof of  new White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Stewart held her own, though. Here are five of the best moments from Saturday’s show.

The West Coast already knew McCarthy’s Spicer press conference parody was going to be the highlight because it sparked a tweetstorm after it aired around 11:45 Eastern Time.

SNL has always been game for gender swaps, so her performance joins the ranks of Will Ferrell as Janet Reno, Kate McKinnon as Justin Bieber and Kenan Thompson as Oprah. Her exaggerations about Congress (“All the men had erections”), prop comedy, and trying to say “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night” mid-show were part of a bravura performance.

Most comedians are making fun of President Trump’s tendency to tweet about everything even when he’s still in office. Every day he’s got something to say to his critics, but Kristen Stewart went back to 2012 when the future president joined Team Edward after her very public breakup with her Twilight costar Robert Pattinson.

The fake commercial was a very timely take on the controversial travel ban. Shot like an ’80s airport immigration video, the new rules were hastily dubbed and inserted, even predicting potential sanctions against Australia. It turned innocent visitors into terrorists and drug dealers, but ended with the judge halting the ban.

Singer Alessia Cara made her first appearance on SNL and judging by the reactions, it will be the first of many. Fans say she sang her two best songs — “Scars to Your Beautiful” and River of Tears” — and surely gained some new fans who discovered her last night.

Even her fellow singers congratulated her.

Leslie Jones as Samuel L. Jackson. Enough said. She broke doing his famous catch phrase from A Time To Kill.
