Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods for premium cable TV brought the the author’s characters to life and introduced viewers to the deities of ancient mythology and the new ones hoping to take their place. By season 2, there are a lot of characters — gods, mortals, and other — to keep track of.

Some of the gods from Gaiman’s book have taken new form, some characters have had much larger roles in the show than they did in the book, and it’s been two years since season 1 aired. Time for a refresher!

In season 1, helmed by showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, Shadow Moon became embroiled in a battle between the old gods and the new gods when Mr. Wednesday hired him as a driver. Trailed by leprechaun Mad Sweeney and Shadow’s undead wife Laura, Shadow may have no choice but to become a believer.

The cast of American Gods and Gaiman himself spoke with Rotten Tomatoes in Los Angeles to reacquaint viewers, new and old, with the series. After you read where each character left off in season 1, flip the image to see where American Gods is headed in season 2.

American Gods returns on Sunday, March 10 on Starz.
