Rotten Tomatoes Fans Predict Parasite to Win Best Picture and Director

Also, Joker wins four categories, Roger Deakins takes Best Cinematography for 1917, and Jojo Rabbit and The Irishman are completely shut out.

After two weeks of voting, the Rotten Tomatoes community has chosen its winners for each category at the 92nd Academy Awards, set to take place this Sunday. The big winner was Bong Joon-ho’s genre-hopping Parasite, which tallied enough votes to win Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best International Film. Todd Phillips’ gritty take on Gotham’s most famous villain, Joker, nabbed four wins of its own, with Joaquin Phoenix predictably taking Best Actor, Phillips himself taking the Best Adapted Screenplay category with co-writer Scott Silver, and Hildur Guðnadóttir — the only woman nominated in her category — winning for Best Original Score. Meanwhile, Sam Mendes’ World War I film failed to win any of the big five awards, but 1917 still tallied three wins in technical categories, including Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins’ stunning work, though Mendes also came close to taking Best Director and the film was just over 100 votes away from taking Best Production Design away from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

All in all, over 400,000 votes were cast, and only a few of the categories were narrowly contested — the award for Best Adapted Screenplay was closely split between four of the nominees. How closely will the actual Academy Awards mirror the RT community’s picks? We’ll have to wait and see when the Oscars are held on Sunday, February 9. See below for the full list of winners and the final results of the poll.
