Roger Ebert Gets Back to Work

You can't keep a good critic down.

Roger Ebert is back on the beat.

The venerable critic has concluded his stay at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and on Tuesday — his 41st anniversary as film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times — he announced he was “at last” returning to writing about movies.

In a post at RogerEbert.com, Ebert told his readers that he “underwent a third surgery in January,” suffered complications, and has yet to regain the ability to speak, “but I still have all my other abilities, including the love of viewing movies and writing about them.”

Ebert also announced his intention to be at the opening night of the 2008 Ebertfest, scheduled to kick off April 23 at the University of Illinois, and reflected on his good fortune after making it through several years of ill health:

I am still cancer-free, and not ready to think about more surgery at this time. I should be content with the abundance I have.
