The Walking Dead season 8 returned last week with the death of a major character. On Sunday, episode 10, “The Lost and the Plunderers,” continued the story of the survivors – grieving and still at war.

SPOILER ALERT: THIS ARTICLE REVEALS DETAILS OF EPISODE 10 OF SEASON 8 OF THE WALKING DEAD.

Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) found herself and her garbage squad on the wrong end of Simon’s (Steven Ogg) very bad day. The resulting slaughter was Biblical. And the Walkers were many, trapping Jadis — and later Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira), who escaped together and left her to face the swarm on her own since she is a dirty, no good, double-crossing scoundrel and is now no one to them without her numbers.

We later find out that Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morganspecifically told Simon not to kill every damn person there. This can only go one way, right?

The episode veered into Oceanside with Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon), but the all-female outpost still wants nothing to do with anyone’s cause. Any where. Any time.

Finally, Rick and Negan closed out the episode with a chat about Carl (Chandler Riggs) that had some suggesting that the episode — at 80% on the Tomatometer with 10 reviews immediately following the airing — is a character-driven highlight of the season.

Here are a few of the best moments from the episode and how fans reacted on social media:

1. The Walking Shred

By the end of the episode, all anyone could talk about was that moment: when the dead Garbage Pail Kids horde ambled into Jadis’ auto shredder–escape plan and splashed out of the other end as beef tartare.

2. Rick and Negan

Rick and Negan’s walkie-talkie exchange also got some social play. With most grousing that Rick really does need to take Negan’s advice — if nothing else than to move this story forward from the war-and-retaliation rut some think the series is stuck in.

Negan: “Just give up. Give up because you have already lost.”

3. Extreme Indifference to Oceanside

Aaron and Enid: Just survived Oceanside. Nbd.

But does anyone care?

4. A Big Gaping Hole Where Carl Used to Be

Many viewers still miss Carl — and aren’t likely to get over it soon. (Remember, Glenn?)

Indeed.

What did you think about the shredder episode? Missing Carl? Tell us in the comments.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8C on AMC.
