"Watch the walls!": Midsommar's Ari Aster Previews His Hotly Anticipated Horror FollowUp

How is Midsommar different from Hereditary? Can sunlight be scary? We sat down for an exclusive extended interview with Aster and stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor.

Midsommar, Ari Aster’s sun-drenched – and presumably blood-soaked – followup to Hereditary, is one of the most anticipated and mystery-shrouded horror releases of the year. What we know: The movie is about a group of friends who go to a festival in Sweden where s–t gets very real. What we don’t know: Pretty much everything else. Rotten Tomatoes got the chance to peel back some of that mystery recently in an exclusive interview with Aster and co-stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor ahead of the first screenings of the movie. Here, Aster, Pugh, and Reynor talk about the folkloric inspirations behind the movie, the breakup story at its heart, and the grueling shoot that resulted in what is apparently one terrifying, weird, and explosive ride. The trio offered one key piece of advice for moviegoers heading to theaters to see Midsommar: “Watch the walls.”

Midsommar is in theaters July 3.
